Last years sales of music all over the world via the Internet and mobile phones soared as high as $1.1 billion, which was three times of that of 2004.
The research conducted by The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, or IFPI, brought results that highlighted the new trend that more and more people are going in for legitimate music downloading rather than illegal file-swapping.
In the same line another business that made big bucks was of mobile-phone ring tones. The sales of ring tones accounted for 40 percent of total revenue generated by record companies.
In order to further curb digital piracy, John Kennedy, Chairman IFPI has announced to take legal action against Internet Service Providers if they did no joined this march against piracy.
“Interoperability'’ of the portable music devices is considered to be a major factor when talking about obstacles in the future growth of digital music market. Varied predictions are made on the future of digital music market. Some say that a quarter of record company revenue might come from digital sales by 2010, while others consider this figure to be less than 10%.
