The European Union consumer Chief Meglena Kuneva seems to be unhappy with the Apple iTunes DRM and was quoted by Reuters saying:
Do you think it’s fine that a CD plays in all CD players but that an iTunes song only plays in an iPod? I don’t. Something has to change.
Well, in context to the issue of DRM-free music, Apple CEO Steve Jobs has already said that Apple is not the single business with a DRM that restricts downloaded music to a device. He cited:
Music purchased from Microsoft’s Zune store will only play on Zune players; music purchased from Sony’s Connect store will only play on Sony’s players; and music purchased from Apple’s iTunes store will only play on iPods.
Though, a Commission spokesperson has said that the Kuneva’s views were her very personal views but that is surely going to have some consequences.
