According to a research conducted by DisplaySearch, Organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screens shipments went up to 144 per cent compared to the same time last year mainly due to increased use in MP3 music players.

OLED displays use organic compounds that emit light when exposed to an electric current. This makes them a perfect fit for small electronics devices such as mobile phones and MP3 players. They have better contrast, offer wider viewing angles and provide faster response times than LCDs.

OLED shipments leaped to 16.7 million units as revenues shot up 49 per cent year-on-year to $US130.9 million. The top OLED seller during the third quarter was South Korea’s Samsung, which sold $US37.1 million worth of the product.
